Responsibilities
  • Identify mechanical issues in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, such as trucks, trailers, construction machinery, and concrete equipment.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Use computerized and manual testing equipment to diagnose issues accurately.
  • Inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and drive chains.
  • Repair or replace damaged parts using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
  • Test the functionality of parts and systems to ensure they are working correctly. Conduct test drives or operational tests of machinery after repairs.
  • Interpret technical manuals and blueprints to perform repairs.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed on vehicles.
  • Document work in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
  • Report progress and issues to direct supervisor.
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices and less experienced mechanics.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Deliver high-quality work that meets or exceeds specifications and standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries on the job site. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and conducting regular safety checks.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report injuries and other accidents to the Shop Foreman.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and address any issues promptly.
  • Ensure equipment/supplies are properly secured to prevent loss or vandalism.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and technologies.

Qualifications
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Journeyperson certificate with 3 years of experience servicing large machinery, trucks and trailers.
  • CVIP and Inspection Certification and experience on trucks and trailers.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid class 5 driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy equipment.
  • Strong leadership and effective communication skills are key assets; ability to speak and write clearly in English.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve vehicle issues efficiently.
  • High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnostics and repairs.
  • Positive attitude, self-confident, self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, twisting, overhead reaching heavy materials in various weather conditions.
  • Good physical condition and stamina and able to meet the demands of the job with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing faults or malfunctions and preference given to those with hands-on experience with various road construction heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and peak period overtime.
